Together in Life, Together Forever

Joseph (Joe) Doyle, 12/09/1930 to 08/16/2023 and Frieda Doyle, 01/28/1932 to 08/18/2023 will be greatly missed by all they knew.

Joe and Frieda met on a blind date in August 1952 and fell in love exploring Mt. Hood, fried chicken and black pepper chocolate cake! They were married on November 28, 1952, and settled in Salem, OR, later in the Eugene/Springfield area and eventually to Florence in 1970. Joe was the Camp Ranger at Camp Baker until his retirement in 1996. Frieda was a tailor and professional seamstress, and worked at Nan-Sal Fabrics until it sold in the mid-1980’s, eventually purchasing the business and finally retiring in 2002.

Joe was an active member of the Florence Rotary Club from 1972 until his death. He held several board positions, was a Past President and was the club’s Exchange Student Liaison Officer for almost 20 years, during which time he and Frieda were on the District Exchange Board. They both received the Paul Harris Fellow Award for their service. After resigning from the District Board, they both became involved with the Florence-Yamagata, Japan Exchange program, helping to organize and chaperone several exchange trips both to Florence and to Yamagata and Gifu City, Japan.

Frieda was an active member of the Rhododendron Quilt Guild for many years, holding several board positions, organizing quilt shows and making quilts for the Pregnancy Caring Center. She was an avid quilter, knitter, and sewer, always learning and perfecting new techniques.

They are survived by their son, Keary, daughter, Kimberly, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. They are preceded in death by son, Leslie.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Florence Christian Church September 17, 2023 at 1:00 PM. Funeral arrangements made through Burns Riverside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you make a donation, in their honor, to the Florence Rotary Club Scholarship Fund.
