Nov. 13, 2019 — John G. Machi, 78, of Florence, passed away on Oct. 22, 2019.
He was born Sept. 20, 1941, in San Francisco, Calif., to Gaetana and Andrew J. Machi. The Machi Family moved to Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1964, and John attended Holy Cross School.
In 1959, John moved to San Jose, Calif., to attend San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in several electronics firms for 27 years.
In 1975, John married Margaret Pearson Machi and they lived in San Jose.
In 1987, they moved to Santa Cruz and, shortly thereafter, John opened his own small business, Rocky Mountain Windowtint, which he ran until 2003.
When both John and Margaret retired in 2006, they moved to Florence, Ore.
John was an avid classic car enthusiast and enjoyed driving several special interest vehicles. He was an active member of the Rhody Cruisers Car Club, the Florence Elks Lodge #1858, the Siuslaw Gun Club and the Florence Lions Club.
He was also an Instructor of the AARP Safe Driver Program. He loved to play pool and fish with his cronies. John was also an avid reader and loved to travel.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florence Elks Lodge.
