HOLDEN—Jean Holden, a 66- year resident of Florence, Ore., passed away on June 29, 2022. She had just celebrated her 91st birthday on June 9.
Jean was born June 9, 1931, in Mossyrock, Wash., Lewis County, to Robert F. and Martha (Washburn) Riley, who were lifelong residents of Mossyrock. She was the third child in her family and was predeceased by her parents, brother Mike, and sisters Juanita and Colleen. Jean was descended from Mossyrock 1880s Pioneers, who homesteaded in this farming and logging town.
Jean was a widow of Wally Holden, who passed in 2015. She is survived by three daughters: Linda Holt (Gene), Beaverton; Sandy Chiang, Beaverton; Kim Holden (Jim), Florence; and one son, Jerry Holden, Sweet Home. There are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family who survive Jean.
Jean was employed many years in a local dental office. She was a self-taught musician and enjoyed being involved in the Old Time Fiddlers Association. Jean also enjoyed growing flowers and had a variety of thriving plants on her patio. Other hobbies she liked were reading, genealogy and refinishing furniture.
Her grandchildren gave her a lot of pleasure over the years. Jean delighted in sharing stories and pictures about them.
In her past two years, Jean needed daily living assistance. She moved to Northwest Memory Care in Glenada. There, she received excellent consistent care from compassionate care givers. Her family is deeply appreciative to NW Memory for their care of Jean and to Dr. Kerner and his Palliative Care team and to PeaceHealth Hospice.
Jean’s memorial will be Tuesday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Burns Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
