Heceta Water District working to repair broken valve

Residents advised to boil water while quality testing continues

Heceta Water District (HWD) is reporting an interruption in service, due to a damaged main line valve at Harbor Vista Park. The damage occurred last night and work began on the repair early this morning. The areas affected by the shut off are Harbor Vista Park, Treewood Drive and the North Jetty.

The damaged valve is under repair at this time and should be back in operation within a couple of hours, according to district employees.

Standard operating policies at HWD mandate the testing of water taken from a repaired pipe, once the repairs are completed, in order to assure the water is safe for drinking. This testing will take place in Eugene and getting the results may take up to 18 hours. Water service will be restored as soon as possible while tests are completed and results are analyzed.

HWD will be placing door hanger notices at residences in the affected areas, once the repair is finished, recommending that water to be used for drinking be boiled before consumption. It is not necessary to boil water that will be used for laundry or showering.

For more information on the status of the repair, contact the HWD at 541-997-2446.
