HALE—Nancy Johnson Hale, 74, of Florence, passed away Aug. 3, 2017.
Nancy was born Dec. 31, 1942, in Norfolk, Va., toNancy and Horace Johnson (both deceased).
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (March, 8, 1984). Nancy studied education at the University of Akron and University of Delaware, making her career as an elementary teacher in places like Chillicothe, Ill., and Durham, NC.
She went on to receive her master’s degree in library sci- ence from North Carolina Central University. After retirement, she joined her kids out west, sparking more of her wanderlust.
Nancy lived life to the fullest and met many dear friends along her journey. Nancy’s love for animals was only matched by her love of travel. In recent years, adventures in her motor home took her and her partner all over the west, scoping out the next best ATV spots, gardening, volunteering and exploring beautiful places.
Nancy was a free spirit and will be missed by the many friends she made along the way.
Nancy is survived by her partner, Coit; son James Edward Hale II (Karen) of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Jennifer Hale (Chad Crabtree) of Portland, Maine; and broth- er James Johnson (Debra) of Westerville, Ohio.
Memorial services will be held throughout the year at later dates.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local humane society in honor of Nancy’s love of animals.
