On Sunday, May 15, local residents will hold a rally at Florence City Hall to demand that the right to choose an abortion be protected in the wake of the leaked draft from the Supreme Court.
The “Parents by Choice, People for Choice” rally will be held at City Hall, 250 Highway 101, followed by a march up to Ninth Street and back from 2 to 5 p.m. on May 15.
According to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and published by POLITICO on May 2, the U.S. Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
“The loss of safe, legal abortions for people facing medical issues is not synonymous with our proud, first world country that stands for freedom,” said Devon Weinstein.
Another rally will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. as concerned women (and their male supporters) will be on the corners of Highways 101 and 126 with signs, banners and flags to express their support of Roe v. Wade.
This is in conjunction with a national effort that includes Florence ORganizes, Planned Parenthood, Women's March, Indivisible and other concerned groups.
