Friends of the Library's Labor Day book sale returns Sept. 3-4

Sept. 19, 2022 — The Friends of the Siuslaw Public Library will be running its popular Labor Day Book Sale for the first time since COVID restrictions suspended the activity. The sale will be Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3 and 4, at the Florence branch of the library, 1460 Ninth St.

The doors of the Bromley Room open at 10 a.m. to the general public on Saturday, Sept. 3 and close at 4 p.m. Current members of the Friends can enter at 9 a.m. on Saturday for their preview sale. The hours on Sunday are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a special “bag sale price” from noon till 3 p.m.

With over 200 boxes of books accumulated, there are thousands of books to choose from: fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, travel books, children’s books and biographies, as well as DVDs and CDs. Most of the items are recent donations, as many people had books piled up during the two-year period when the library was unable to accept donations.

Prices will be extremely reasonable: $1 for hardbacks and “trade” size paperbacks; 50 cents for small paperbacks.

The Friends have already experimented with two pop-up book sales in July and earlier this month. These took place outside under cover of the library front porch and proved quite popular in the four hours they were open. With minimum advanced publicity and effort, the Friends were able to raise nearly $800.

Memberships to the Friends of the Library may be purchased at the Labor Day Book Sale and will be valid through December 2023. Membership forms can also be downloaded from the Friends “Become A Friend” page on the library website, siuslawlibrary.info/folmembership, and mailed to the Friends’ Post Office Box 2465, Florence OR 97439, or dropped off the Library.

The mission of the Friends of the Library is to support the Siuslaw Public Library District. Book sales, donations and membership dues are our only sources of funds. The Friends of the Siuslaw Public Library District is a 501(c)(3) organization and all proceeds benefit the Library.
