Florence Urban Renewal Agency recruiting members

April 6, 2019 — Do you have an interest in supporting the revitalization of the Florence downtown area? Are you interested in helping efforts to develop downtown for its tourism, commercial prospects and as Florence’s community core? Then consider joining the Florence Urban Renewal Agency (FURA).

FURA serves to implement the projects and efforts of the Florence Downtown Plan through execution of the tax increment financing. As a timely example, FURA has been instrumental in the development and financing of the ReVision Florence streetscape design project currently under construction on Highways 101 and 126.

FURA consists of nine members, of which five shall be citizens at large. Special consideration will be given to the potential appointment of elected members of the governing bodies of the Western Lane Ambulance District, Port of Siuslaw, Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue and/or the Siuslaw Library District.

FURA generally meets once per month on the fourth Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Persons interested in positions should expect to attend recurring meetings and devote time for study of issues and performance above and beyond meeting attendance. Volunteer time is vital in working towards solutions to local government issues.

If you are interested in serving and getting involved, consider. The deadline for applications is fast approaching on April 19, so apply today!

Applying for a position is easy. Applications can be downloaded from the city’s website at www.ci.florence.or.us and are available at the Florence City Hall, 250 Highway 101, during regular business hours.

For details regarding the duties and responsibilities of this agency, requirements of applicants, term lengths or any other questions, contact City Recorder / Economic Development Coordinator Kelli Weese at 541-997-3437 or [email protected].
