July 21, 2022 — On Aug. 2, 2022, the City of Florence Police Department will be hosting the annual National Night Out (NNO) event at Miller Park from 6 to 9 p.m.

NNO is a community police event celebrated by over 16,000 communities across the United States. It is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts.

Florence Police Department will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, cotton candy and soft drinks at no cost to the public. There will be a variety of giant inflatable play structures, dunk tanks, kid games and other activities with visits by police officers, Public Works, other City of Florence staff, firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard and paramedics. There will also be other organizations in attendance providing activities for all residents.

Local youth will be able to get their face painted, have a balloon animal made and interact with local first responders.

This year will have a DJ from Magic One Entertainment — so bring a chair or blanket to sit on and enjoy the music!

The city requests that people don’t bring their pets to the park. Remember, this is a family friendly event, so no alcohol or smoking is allowed.

“Every person in the police department is confident that we can make this community event another success and bring our neighbors together with the men and women who protect them,” said Florence Police Department representative Jamie Gorder. “The safety of our community depends on both law enforcement and the neighbors they serve. NNO helps enhance this vital relationship. Please join us for a fun filled evening!”
