Florence phases in to ‘new normal

May 20, 2020 — The introduction of Governor Brown’s Phase One Reopening for certain businesses in 28 Oregon counties, including Lane County, included restaurants, salons and retail stores.

The reopening brought many visitors to Florence’s Old Town District over the weekend.

Phase One changes include a reduction of seating capacity for restaurants to allow for social distancing requirements, which still remain in effect.

The Port of Siuslaw boat ramp was also reopened for anglers. There were fewer than anticipated boaters over the weekend according to Port Manager David Huntington.

“There were only about five or six boats that went out on Saturday and I’m not sure how many went out on Sunday” he said. “So, I would say we probably had a total of maybe 10 boats go out over the weekend.”

Phase One of the governor’s reopening period continues through June 5 when, should the state’s metrics remain positive and barring any significant jump in the spread of COVID-19, Phase Two of Oregon’s reopening plan will go into effect.
