March 29, 2019 — The Florence Farmer’s Market will be the featured agency this month at the regular meeting of the Florence Area Community Coalition on Wednesday, April 3, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library.
President Mary Shaw and Secretary Jen Nelson will give updates about the Farmer’s Market, which will open for its second season in May, continuing each Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. throughout the summer months.
The market is located in the lot next to the Veterans Memorial Park on Bay Street, right near Bay and Kingwood. Ms. Shaw is excited to share information about the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program’s (SNAP) “Doubled Up Dollars” arrangement available to market shoppers. To help fund this program, the Florence Farmer’s Market grows plant starts, which are available to everyone with hopes of a small donation. Plants will be available at Wednesday’s meeting.
Shaw will also tell about the recent receipt of a Western Lane Community Foundation grant, new vendors and the cooking skills program at the market.

All individuals and organizations are reminded that FACC’s annual Volunteer Recognition Event will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Florence Events Center.
This year’s theme is “Jazzed About Our Volunteers.” Keynote speaker Russ Pierson, jazz guitar, scholarship award, volunteer slideshow and delicious edibles are all part of the event. Cost is $8 per person or $60 per table of 8. Deadline is April 1 to reserve your seats. Call 541-999-2927.
