Jan. 10, 2018 — Eleanor “Ellie” Ruth DuRee passed away Tuesday Nov. 14, 2017.
Ellie was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Samuel and Pebble (Strong) DuRee. She grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Inglewood High School in 1949.
Ellie always loved the arts in many forms. She was very talented with drawing in charcoal and pastels and painting with oils. Later in life she turned her artistic interests to stained glass and anything she could put into a kiln.
In 1993, she moved from Paradise, Calif., to Florence and began a new chapter in her life. She loved walking with her grandchildren on the beach, where they would collect rocks, then take them home and turn them into beautiful gems. She also loved to crochet, knit, scrapbook and make cards with her friends.
Ellie started doing genealogy and joined the Siuslaw Genealogical Society, holding many offices throughout the years. She also became an active member of the LDS Church and head librarian in the Genealogy Room there.
Ellie enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her Thursday Train girls.
Ellie was proceeded in death by her parents and both brothers, Richard and Robert.
Ellie is survived by daughters: Suzanne (and husband Vance Smith), Sharon (and husband Glen Stutzman), Helen (and husband Todd Thurman), and Natalie Nelson; sons: Russell Nelson and Len Lanzi; nine grandchildren: Jason, Crystal, Darrell, Josef, Daniel, Whitney, Hannah, Rachel and Trevor; 18 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Brianna, Alexis, Jacob, Joshua, Devin, Austin, Aria, Kaylee, Karson, Colin, Rylan, Rowan, Carli, Easton, Coleman, Wyatt and Chloe; and one great-great-grand daughter, Audrey.
Ellie will truly be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in the spring of 2018.
