Dec. 20, 2017 — STILES—Dorothy Stiles, 90, of Florence, died Dec. 13, 2017.
She was born May 5, 1927, in Saratoga, NY., to Willard and Nellie Russell. She was a nurse and, while working in the infirmary of Cornell University, met her husband, Herbert Stiles.
Dorothy worked as a nurse in New York State, South Dakota, Maryland, Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., a hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a prison in Atascadero, Calif. Dorothy and Herbert moved to Greentrees in Florence in 1990 and greatly enjoyed their years of retirement together.
When she found Florence, she found her home. She loved the town and her friends and family. Dorothy was always active volunteering, traveling, playing cards, baking, knitting and gardening. She knitted sweaters constantly for family, friends, newborn babies and Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota.
She will be remembered with love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by Herbert, her husband of 49 years. She is survived by her son, Richard Stiles, and his wife, Allison; grandchildren Gregory, Eric and Laura; and by her daughter, Anne Williams.
The family would like to thank all the folks who cared for her at Spruce Point Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Peace Harbor Home Health and Hospice.
At her request, private cremational rites were held through Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
Remember Dorothy by treasuring your time with family and friends.
