Don never lost his love of trains and served as a docent for the SF Railroad Museum for several years. Don fell in love with Joan Jensen in San Francisco, and after discovering the beautiful Oregon coast, the couple moved to Florence where they married in 2004.
Don loved developing his property in Florence and was able to enjoy apples, cherries, plums and pears as the results of his labors. Another passion of his was foraging for wild mushrooms, which he gathered each fall.
Over the years, Don was active in a number of groups in Florence including STEP, CERT, ARS and Band of Brothers. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where he served as a Eucharist Minister. He also attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Gardiner.
