Aug. 24, 2019 — Don Schug, of Florence went to be with the Lord on Aug. 5, 2019, with family members at his side.
Don and his wife, Shirley, had been married for 70 years and were originally from Ida Grove, Iowa.
They pulled a trailer-house from Iowa to California in 1953, along with their two little girls, Anne and Donna. They settled in Redondo Beach, Calif., where Don worked for a building contractor as a carpenter shingling, installing siding and windows and door frames.
He eventually worked toward and obtained a B-1 General Contractors License. He built tract homes in Fountain Valley, Orange, Yorba Linda, Long Beach and various other areas, as Don Schug Development Co. Shirley was his “girl-Friday” secretary and ran the office. They worked together until retiring to Florence in 1987.
They had five children: Anne, Donna, Sherry, David and Debra (Their son died in 1990); 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great- greats!
Don and Shirley enjoyed camping, motor-homing and family get-togethers.
He is buried at Pacific Sunset Cemetery in Florence, Ore., and was much loved by his wife and family.
