Don “Kent” Ohran -
Don “Kent” Ohran passed away on June 28th, 2023 after a year long battle with lung cancer at the age of 78 at home with his wife and stepdaughter holding his hands. PeaceHealth Hospice had been a vital part of the last few months of Kent’s life. Kent was born on August 16th, 1944 in American Fork, Utah to parents Ruby and Donal Ohran.
Kent served in the National Guard in his youth after high school graduation in American Fork. After serving, he moved to Riverside, CA and managed Smugglers Inn restaurant then followed one of his best friends to Florence where he called home for the next 40+ years.
Kent managed The Whistler restaurant and The Landing. Darlings Resort became his favorite hangout where he spent many evenings laughing and entertaining the other patrons. A few years later he became a residential painter and bartended private events for family and friends. He built wood stoves for Glo-King and turned Myrtlewood at the local Myrtlewood factory making lifelong friends. He ended up retiring from Bi-Mart after working there for over 13 years which is where he met his loving wife, Karen Ohran. They were together for the next 13 years and enjoyed remodeling their home and taking day trips to the beach where they searched and collected rocks for Kent to tumble. They purchased a Motorhome together and enjoyed adventures up and down the Oregon coast and exploring new places. Kent’s favorite hobby was frequenting classic car shows and you could always spot him wearing a car show T-shirt. He was an incredible artist and had even designed and painted some of the t-shirts for the local car clubs. He had a massive Hot Wheels collection and loved going on Hot Wheels treasure hunts. His smile and sense of humor will always be missed. Another one of Kent’s favorite hobbies was trying to win the lottery via scratch off tickets that his wife would find stashed in his secret places around their home. He never won it big but it wasn’t for a lack of trying!
Kent will be greatly missed by his wife Karen Ohran of Florence, his son Dustin and granddaughter Penelope of Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his 2 brothers Mike (Colleen) Ohran of Emmett, ID and Brad Ohran of Mona, UT. He is also survived by 3 step-children Clint (Jody) Howell of Byron, MN and their daughter, Brooklyn. Kylee (James) Millican and their children Cayden and Kenzie of Springfield. Tyler (Gabby) Howell of Washington D.C. and their children Oliver and Violet. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.
Preceding Kent in death is his stepdaughter Natalie Howell of Friendship, WI.
During the last months of Kent’s life, he was visited by friends and family near and far. He cherished all of the laughs and memories shared with each and every one of them. He felt incredibly blessed and surrounded by all the love. Kent had many friends in Florence and appreciated all that they contributed to his life.
At the wishes of Kent, there will be no service.
