April 10, 2019 — Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (ODRC) is planning two work parties to celebrate Earth Day.
On Saturday, April 20, in cooperation with the Siuslaw National Forest and University of Oregon’s RARE (Resource Assistance for Rural Economies) program, the public is welcome to join ODRC volunteers in removing invasive Scotch broom from the John Dellenback trail and dunes area from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The work party will include discussions about native grasses, dunes ecology, and possible restoration efforts.
The John Dellenback trailhead is 20 minutes south of Reedsport on the westside of Highway 101, just south of Eel Creek Campground.
Then on Saturday, April 27, in cooperation with Oregon State Parks, the public is welcome to join ODRC volunteers in removing invasive Scotch broom at the Dunes Day Use Area, Jessie M. Honeyman State Park from 9 a.m. to noon (Head south on Highway 101, turn right at Hon-eyman State Park then stay left at the junction for Dunes Day Use Area. Turn right and park at the Dunes Day Use Area.)
For both events, volunteers are not required to pay the day use fees. Bring loppers, tree saws or shovels, and drinking water. Long pants, sturdy shoes, a hat and a snack are recommended.
ODRC has a limited number of tools, so those needing tools to participate can contact Info @SaveOregonDunes.org.
ODRC thanks the Childs-Whitney Trust for the funds that were used to recently purchase the tools.
