Community Band to Give Free Labor Day Concert in Yachats

Aug. 26, 2022 — Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble (PCWE) will perform an end-of-the-summer concert on the Yachats Commons Porch on Labor Day, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. This group has assembled a variety of musical selections, including songs from “West Side Story” as well as the melody heard in Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary.
There will be marches like “The Steel King March” and “Washington Post March” to stir a holiday mood as well as novelty songs like “The Peanut Vendor” and “Woodwind Marmalade” for toe-tapping delight. A brief narration will precede each selection.
PCWE draws musicians from several coastal communities, including Newport, Seal Rock, Yachats, Ten Mile and Florence. The group is under the direction of Dr. Jim O’Brien for this concert, assisted by Evelyn Archer.
The concert is free to the public. Attendees are asked to bring a chair, pillow or blanket to sit on.
The Yachats Commons Porch is located at 441 Highway 101.
