City Lights to honor Wannberg with ‘Indiana Jones,’ ‘Late Show’

8th anniversary of City Lights Cinemas on Aug. 11, 2022

Aug. 3, 2022 — City Lights Cinemas is celebrating its eighth anniversary with a tribute to the late film composer,   music editor and dear friend of the cinemas, Kenneth Wannberg. Thrill to the adventure of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” on the big screen, laugh with the comedic mystery “The Late Show” and learn about the life and career of Florence’s influential film legend.

“A Tribute to Kenneth Wannberg” will be held throughout the day Thursday, Aug. 11, at City Lights Cinemas, starting at 12:30 p.m. Popcorn and drinks are on the house, while members get free admission to the films.

“Ken contained a multitude of great stories from his long career — it usually only took a Scotch and soda to get those memories flowing, his mind sharp and his wit cutting,” said Michael Falter, co-owner of City Lights and longtime friend of Wannberg. “It is time for us to celebrate Ken and raise a glass.”

Wannberg’s long and distinguished career as a music editor and composer is vast: over 50 years working with the most exalted professionals in the film business -—from Bernard Herrmann in the ‘50’s through his long stint working with his close friend John Williams. With Williams composing and Wannberg editing the music to the film, they became an inseparable team as they worked on some of the most influential franchises of all time: “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” “Jurassic Park” and “Harry Potter.”

But Wannberg was a master composer as well, scoring such classic films as “The Changeling.” His last score was composed especially for City Lights’ presentation of the silent masterpiece, “The Cabinet of Dr. Calgari.”

The celebration kicks off with all day screenings of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” at 12:30, 3:30 and 7:10 p.m.

From 6 to 7 p.m., Florence musician Denny Weaver will be in the lobby playing his close friend's most recognizable works.

At 7 p.m., there will be a screening of “The Late Show,” with a special intro created for the event.
