Building holiday fun

Dec. 12, 2018 — The Siuslaw Public Library’s annual Gingerbread House Decorating Extravaganza was an overwhelming success on Saturday, as hundreds of kids of all ages filled the library’s Bromley room to take part in the free event.

“We were actually on the overwhelmed side of things, and it takes a lot to overwhelm me,” said Children’s Librarian Gayle Waiss, who helped coordinate the event. “We had 364 people come through the door the four hours we were open, with 250 in just the first hour. Last year, we didn’t have 200 the whole day.”

Every December, the Library offers free, tasty materials from icing to gingerbread, so participants can build their very own gingerbread house.

“This year was a very well received event,” Waiss said.
