Jan. 5, 2019 — Brian Scott Mott, 72, of Florence, passed away Dec. 20, 2018.
Brian was born to William and Yvonne Mott on Aug. 15, 1946, in Mateo, Calif.
He graduated from Newberg High School in 1965, then enrolled in the Pre-med program at U of O. He graduated from U of O with degrees in biology and chemistry.
While attending graduate school, Brian worked at Eugene Hospital and Clinic.
From 1971 to 1981, Brian worked as a chemist and supervisor in the particle board division of Bohemia in Eugene. He transferred to Willamette Industries in Albany in 1981 as technical director.
In 2002, Weyerhaeuser bought Willamette Industries at the Albany particle plant. Brian retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2006 as technical director and environmental coordinator.
Brian “Dr. Mott” was a principled man of character, and his loved ones will miss his wit, humor, honesty, cantankerousness and intelligence, as well as his love of nature, the Oregon coast, science, history, dogs and cats.
In retirement, Brian increasingly focused his time, attention and resources on advocating for a peaceful, just and civil society.
He is survived by his brother Jeff (wife Anne); life partner of 32 years David Babcock; his daughters Elisabeth McBrien (husband Pat); their son Peter; and Jessica Babcock.
