SCOTT— Barbara Alyson Gayle Scott passed away November 18, 2022, in Florence, Ore.

She was born June 25, 1937.

What words can explain the wonderful woman who was my mother. Beautiful, smart, gracious, resourceful, hopeful and loving come to mind, but they are all inadequate.

Growing up on the family farm in the Kansas prairie (Kinsley) gave her deep roots to family, hard work, sacrifice and love. Her mother, Ruth Mary Ploger Scott was her shining example of motherhood and set her on a path in life that included going to CBI for college and eventually building her own family in Oregon, to which, she too was a most wonderful mother.

Her wisdom, adventuresome spirit, and patience shown in all the diverse avenues of her life, both in career choices and in her travels, exploring much of the US and Europe with me. She was musically talented, singing barbershop harmonies or hymns, and played both the piano and the accordion for more than 30 years.

She single-handedly supported her family, working primarily in the health food industry through Fred Meyer, eventually moving on to Hughs Missile Systems in Arizona, and the National Association for Teachers in Washington DC. She was determined and dedicated in all she did.

After retiring to Florence on the Oregon Coast that she loved, she became a historical character actor in town, playing the first female to settle in this area. Through all her activities, she created joy wherever she went. She will be missed by many, a truly beautiful and loving soul who I was privileged to call my mother.

With much love and gratitude, Sarah Gayle

Alyson is survived by her brother, Tom Scott; two daughters: Rachel Khachikian and Sarah Gayle Silwones; and one granddaughter, Emma.

Condolences to 221 Station Street, Johnstown PA 15905.
