Ballots should have arrived for May 21 election

Lane County Elections mailed ballots last Wednesday for the May 21 Special Election. Most voters should receive their ballots by today, May 8. Ballots for newly registered voters will be mailed early next week.

Voters who do not receive a ballot for the May 21 Special Election by today can check on the status of their registration and ballot at

They may also contact Lane County Elections at 541-682-4234 to determine if they need to update their voter registration in order to receive a ballot.

Voters may drop off their ballots at the drop box located at the Florence Justice Center on Ninth Street.

Drop boxes are open and will remain open until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

This is the second election in which the new secrecy sleeve is replacing the secrecy envelope that used to come with ballots. The optional sleeve allows voters to protect the privacy of their votes while making the ballot processing more efficient. It is much faster to remove ballots from the secrecy sleeve than an envelope and, ultimately, Lane County Elections will be able to pro-cess ballots faster and release election results more quickly.

Lane County Elections is located at 275 W. 10th Ave., on the corner of 10th and Lincoln streets in downtown Eugene.

Public office hours are 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Election Day, May 21, the Lane County Elections Office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
