Austentatious debuts gallery with artist Giuliano Marchetti

“Tornupart” Show opens July 17

July 14, 2021 — “Edgy,” “intriguing,” “outrageous” and “phenomenal” are some of the first words that come to mind in describing the opening act of the Austentatious Gallery — the amazing Giuliano Marchetti and his metal sculptures. Austentatious, 494 Highway 101, is opening the gallery for the first time on Saturday, July 17, and the show will continue through the end of August.

“I’m opening the gallery now to celebrate the reopening of the state and a return to arts and culture events,” said Jeremy Austen, owner of the store and gallery. “My vision is that the Austentatious Gallery will be a showcase for local and regional artists who normally aren’t represented in galleries in coastal communities.”

Austen chose to launch the contemporary art space with the work of local artist Marchetti. The show, called “Tornupart,” will open with a reception on July 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Marchetti is a master of his craft, creating masterpieces from manipulated metal. His one-of-a-kind artwork unites recycling and repurposing. He takes metal, wood, wire, glass or used objects and fashions them into his fantasies. His works range in size and can fit any display space.

One of Marchetti’s intriguing characteristics is his ability to see the extraordinary in the mundane and make it truly exceptional.

The community is invited to examine his sculptures up close and very personal during the show at the Austentatious Gallery.

“His artwork is absolutely amazing, and you must see it to appreciate the scope of his skillset!” said Michelle Angilletta and Kimberly Fleenor in a news release. “Giuliano takes bells, wires, lamp fixtures, instruments, used metals of every kind and color then turns them into entirely different objects. His creations combine function and form, geometry and balance, light and dark, science, spirit and spunk and an entirely new way to view everyday objects that have morphed into magnificent metal masterpieces.”

The pieces will be on display at Austentatious, which opened in November 2020. Now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, Austen is ready to open the gallery portion of his shop in the historic Tidewater Electric Building.

“I look forward to showing the community the finished space, and I’m honored to have such a talented and well-known visual artist as Giuliano as our debut artist,” he said.

This fantastic art show will run through the end of August at the Austentatious Gallery. Store hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
