2019 Soroptimist Community Christmas Baskets and toy giveaway set for Dec. 14

Families can get toys, holiday food baskets

Dec. 2, 2019 — On Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Soroptimist International of Florence is sponsoring the annual Florence Community Christmas Baskets at Siuslaw Middle School. This free giveaway provides a box of holiday essential food items to the local community. Hundreds of people regularly benefit from this food drive.

According to the Florence Soroptimists, members are shifting into high gear to get ready for this event. It is a coordinated effort by Florence service clubs, churches and community members organized by Soroptimists for those in need throughout the area.

In addition to food baskets, there will be a toy giveaway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florence Church of the Nazarene, 1536 12th St. Toys are for children, infants to 12 years old.

Each Community Christmas Basket contains either a turkey or chicken; stuffing, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and canned vegetables; fresh potatoes, carrots, apples and oranges; eggs, butter and milk; applesauce and fruit cocktail; and pantry items such as oatmeal, crackers, peanut butter and jam. Plus, each box also contains cookies and candy canes.

Soroptimist is in need of monetary donations for the Christmas food baskets. Any donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. People can mail donations to Soroptimist International of Florence, PO Box 1209, Florence OR 97439. A donation of $65 pays for a food box for a family of 2.
